Club Santos Laguna Reinforces Commitment to Inclusion Through the Santos Peñoles Cup
Torreón, Coahuila, May 5, 2025 – Through its social responsibility program Guerreros de Corazón, Club Santos Laguna continues to champion inclusion as a core pillar in its daily initiatives across the Comarca Lagunera.
As part of these ongoing efforts, the Santos Peñoles International Cup—the most important youth tournament in northern Mexico—has, for several years now, included a special category for teams made up of young athletes with Down syndrome and intellectual and/or motor disabilities.
In the 2025 edition, eight teams participated in this category, experiencing unforgettable moments that fostered friendship, passion, and, most importantly, inclusion.
Mariana Alvídrez, General Manager of Ganar Sirviendo, reflected on the experience:
“We saw all kinds of emotions—so much joy and intensity. Even though this is a friendly category, the players always strive to win. Every goal was celebrated with passion, and they played each match as if it were a final.
It was a beautiful experience from start to finish. Both the players and coaches shared that the opening ceremony was the most exciting moment for them—they were thrilled by the event. We also had some players from this category take part in the ceremonial kickoff. Everyone showed up to their matches motivated and on time—they left happy and are already eager to come back next year.”
On the final day of activity, Mariana added:
“We believe that promoting inclusion is already a victory for society as a whole. Within the strategic framework of Ganar Sirviendo and Guerreros de Corazón, inclusion is one of our four fundamental pillars. In this category, inclusion is the true winner—every team that participates is already a champion and receives a trophy.”
