"The Santos Cup can be the first step toward fulfilling a dream." – Stephano Carrillo

Stephano Carrillo, a forward from Cuencamé, Durango, recently made his Liga MX debut and scored his first goal in Mexico’s top division against América on Matchday 14. His journey with Santos Laguna began through his participation in the Santos Peñoles Cup.

Having been part of the Santos Laguna youth system since 2018 and a World Cup player with Mexico’s U-17 National Team, Carrillo reflected on his experience:

"I was part of Academia Santos Peñoles in Velardeña, a small town near Cuencamé. I had the opportunity to play in the Santos Peñoles Cup in May 2017 at the age of 11, and we finished as runners-up in Tournament B."

A Life-Changing Experience

He fondly recalled his first impressions of Territorio Santos Modelo (TSM):

"When I played in that edition of the Santos Peñoles Cup, I got to see the incredible facilities at Territorio Santos Modelo. It was an amazing experience—to explore the entire complex, visit Estadio Corona, step off the bus, and see the fields packed with families cheering us on. It was truly special."

Now a Mexico U-20 international, "Phano" highlighted the energy and passion surrounding the tournament:

"The atmosphere is incredible—full of family, joy, and pure love for football. Every kid who plays in this tournament feels it, and so do the families, who bring the stadium to life with their chants, cheers, and drums."

A Message to Young Players: A Dream Starts Here

To all the young players participating in the tournament, Carrillo shared a motivational message:

"I came to the Santos Peñoles Cup with the mindset of enjoying myself and giving my all. Fortunately, the scouts noticed me, invited me for further trials, and I eventually joined the youth academy. To all the kids: come, have fun, and show your best. Just like me, this tournament could be your first step toward fulfilling your dream. But above all, enjoy every moment, work hard, and showcase your talent."
